The Mad Max video game is, in its very design, anti-fun
Steam offers PC gamers the option to return video games. I used to be skeptical of the notion. Video games can be big. They can take time to reveal their best self. I am only a couple hours into Mad Max, and if I hadn’t received the copy for review, I would be demanding a refund. Mad Max isn’t a mediocre video game, doomed by technical flaws or shoddy art design. Mad Max is beautiful, and, unlike so many better games released this year...

Hitman Delayed to 2016
The next Hitman game has suffered a delay by a few months and will launch in March 2016. According to developer IO Interactive, Hitman is “the biggest venture” the studio has undertaken both in scope and game content. The extra time will allow for more of that content to be available at launch as Square Enix and IO Interactive are trying something different with Hitman by supporting the game with continuous updates after its release.

'The Witcher 3' And 'Fallout 4' Show Us That Single-Player Games Should Live Forever
It’s about that time where everyone starts to compile their Game of the Year lists. There are a few last minute additions to be considered (Rainbow Six: Siege, Just Cause 3, Xenoblade Chronicles X), but I think most have come up with many of their top picks already. It’s likely that many GOTY lists will include Fallout 4 or The Witcher 3 somewhere near the top. And I think that’s a significant achievement, given that we now exist in an age...

Why Age of Empires 2 is still growing
Scant few games stand the test of time and retain a large active player base sixteen years after release. But not only has Age of Empires II endured, it has thrived. It’s gained new steam thanks in part to an official high-definition re-release but mostly due to the ragtag group of modders-turned-developers who made that release possible. Forgotten Empires filled the game with new stuff and rebalanced the multiplayer in one enormous mod and then...

Game Theory: Minecraft's Ending, DECODED!
When Minecraft first came out, players were confused about one thing...THE ENDING. Minecraft's ending is a 10-minute scroll of philosophical text that everyone either wrote off completely or LOVES to HATE. This weird, philosophical conversation/poem/mumbo-jumbo confused everyone and seemed all wrong for Minecraft, a game that technically is ENDLESS! But looking at it more closely, the ending of Minecraft hides an amazing story about the game, the universe, and how awesome WE are as gamers.

PayPal reveals start date for Steam summer sale
Every year, Valve unleashes a summer sale on its Steam storefront that’s destined to plunge scores of its users into financial instability thanks to the wide array of deals on offer — and every year, PayPal leaks the start date ahead of time. Now, a promotional email from the company has ripped the lid off Valve’s plans for 2016. This year’s Steam summer sale will get underway on June 23, as per an email distributed to PayPal account holders over the past week. “Now you know when it’s going to happen,” reads the accompanying message “you can get ready for the savings.”

A Video Game That Lets You Torture Iraqi Prisoners
Attention grasp. Stress positions. Water dousing. Rectal rehydration. These are some of the government’s sanitized terms for the “enhanced interrogation techniques” that the CIA used on captives held at secret locations overseas during the George W. Bush administration. They mask the brutality that many prisoners faced for months or years under the agency’s interrogation program, as outlined in the landmark 2014 report from the Senate Intelligence Committee. That report is dense and riddled with redactions, but its findings have never been more relevant.

Valve Bans Game Publisher After It Sues Players That Gave It Bad Steam Reviews
Video game developer Digital Homicide, it would seem, is out to commit digital suicide. The studio already earned a bit of bad press earlier this year by slapping game critic Jim Sterling with a ridiculous $10 million lawsuit for posting rude video reviews of their games since 2014, and that still isn't settled. Now, however, they're casting a wider net that's only provoking more anger. Based on legal documents posted on Google Docs recently by YouTuber SidAlpha, Digital Homicide developer James Romine is now suing 100 users of Valve's Steam digital distribution platform for $18 million for the heinous crime of leaving bad reviews...

Steam will soon natively support PlayStation 4 controllers
While it's been possible to link a DualShock 4 to a PC to play Steam games, the functionality has been provided by third-party apps, not the companies themselves. Luckily, that will soon change, after Valve's Jeff Bellinghausen confirmed to Gamasutra that the game company is working to include native support for other gamepads, starting with the PlayStation 4 controller. "Believe it or not, when you use the PS4 Controller through the Steam API, it's exactly the same as a Steam Controller.

Full DualShock 4 Support is Being Added to Steam
The PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controller is arguably one of the best gaming controllers on the market. However, if you wanted to use it to play games on Steam, you needed to run a third party program in order to do so. Those days will soon come to an end as Valve is going to be adding full DualShock 4 configurability to Steam in an upcoming update.

You Can Embalm Dead Bodies In This Funeral Home Video Game
For many people, the first intimate experience with death is pixelated. Pac-Man collides with a ghost. Mario gets hit by a fireball, turns to face the screen, lifts his hands in the air, floats, then sinks into the netherworld. “Mortal Kombat” contestants disembowel their opponents. A Sims dies of old age. The protagonist of “Fallout 4” watches his wife get shot as he’s restrained, helpless, in his cryogenic tube.
