Lets talk mobile

What are Snapzu's plans on an Android/iPhone app? I thought I heard something about it somewhere but I can't find it. To be honest, one of the best parts about Reddit was the ease of use on my phone (I used Relay for Reddit on Android). I have been using the browser to check Snapzu lately, but honestly it's not the greatest experience. So, I'm wondering if theres an app or something in the works to make mobile browsing easier.

I don't know about an app, but I know a mobile version of the site is in the works but with no launch date. Generally its really a question of when the site will have enough traction to warrant the development of a mobile app/site. This place have zero exterior funding, no ads, and generally no income outside of what is being put in on a personal level (development time and hosting costs). I think the best thing that can be done right now is to share this place around, the more traction this place gets the easier it will get to support a project of this size.

Makes sense. Guess I'll make do with the mobile version for a while :)

In terms of gaining traction (and raising funds) wouldn't it make more sense to remove the invite only system? I see the merits of that in it might filter out certain kinds of spam and undesirable users, but if your long-term goal is to generate revenue, it might be beneficial to make it open to more people! Just a thought!

Where can I volunteer my efforts? I have 5 years responsive web design experience and I would love to know where to direct any questions on how I can help.

Overall, for a site like this, responsive is the way to go, and the time to market and overall cost are much less than app development, not to mention future proofing.

I think a reddit approach to the apps would be interesting, basically have people work on apps with whatever resources they have.

Agreed, as Caelreth mentioned if they are creating an API I think that should definitely help with app making.

Exactly. And the reddit atmosphere for apps is perfect, they can offer different experiences while staying just competitive enough. I think that works better than "This is the all, deal with it."

I do think the community would greatly increase with the addition of a mobile app. I get the bus a lot and would love to have a place I can just browse whilst travelling. I'm glad to hear there's an API in the works.

I want to say that I've read that an API is coming soon(ish), but not finished apps. I could very well be wrong. /u/drunkenninja will be along to correct me soon, I'm sure :)

Yeah - but you hadn't submitted your comment before I started typing, so I didn't know I was getting beat like a rented mule :)

I really like the idea of exposing an API for developers to pull data from. Reddit has an extremely strong API and makes things trivial to pull data from and post things to. (for example, need reddit homepage in JSON? https://www.reddit.com/.json. How about mobile-ready? https://www.reddit.com/.compact.

If snapzu gets an API, then I'd enjoy giving some mobile development a shot.

When I looked at Reddit's API last the way to pull back branched discussions was.... ergh.... and that's why I didn't go any further.

I was actually wondering this last night and was going to make a post asking about an API.

I hope at least a mobile site will come soon because browsing on my phone sucks bad right now. I have no home Internet access until Saturday. Keep up the good work though guys!
