Windows 10 just tried to install itself on my computer

I am watching an old You tube of American Idol and bam, it just shuts down the video and starts downloading. I turned the computer off at 4% input and it did not try again yet. I'm pissed.

I had this happen to me a few weeks ago, so I ended up figuring out how to turn the thing off so it doesn't do it again.

XP used to pull that crap just to update..And people wonder why I switched to Linux distros 12 years ago. That's one reason, there are a lot more.

Thanks for the tips all. I logged in this morning and it demanded I schedule a time to download/install. Made it so that you had to pick a time and date and once confirmed you could not change it. I hit system restore and that option went away, but now the message is, we would like to request this time to schedule your installation for this Friday. I will try disable this via your suggestions.

I am completely blown away that corporation is trying to ram this down my throat and that you have to be somewhat tech savvy (I'm not at all) to prevent what I consider an infection on my computer.

I know it's in vogue to bitch about Windows 10, but I've upgraded a long time ago and it's been a really, really smooth experience.

I'm currently working on a project to develop a Windows 10 SOE and our entire team has been cursing Redmond nonstop. At the moment we're trying to establish a default tile setup which gets updated as new programs are added (auto-sorting them in alphabetical order) and lo and behold, the "unpinfromstartmenu" verb is broken.

Like so many other features in Windows 10.

It'd be nice if they'd stop breaking their own shit so we had a stable environment for development.

That is why I don't want to download this monster. There are tomes written on how to fix...and just for fun here is a web page full of web pages of fixes.

As one of my coworkers observed last week, Windows 10 has been out for a year now. It doesn't speak well that they're still having these problems.

And yet is being very aggressively pushed out, but I think I am preaching to the chior, very disappointing.
