Since any time you move around the site your preference changes back to "trending" it's easy to miss the new stuff. I've requested to the admins that they allow the site to remember our sorting preference so I don't have to keep resorting everywhere I go.
This would be a great option. I also prefer to sort by Newest and I'm always surprised when I go to my front page and see something with dozens of upvotes before I remember.
