Executives at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Ford have reason to celebrate over their muscle cars, while Chevrolet is likely taking a hard look at its Camaro. The 2018 sales figures are in from all three American automakers, and the results put Ford on top in the muscle car wars. Despite a decrease in sales of 7.4 percent compared to the previous year, Ford managed to sell 75,842 Mustangs in 2018. The figure is more than enough to claim the number one spot after its first full year on sale after a mid-cycle refresh.

In the first half of next year, Ford Motor Co. will detail plans to lay off part of its global salaried workforce — and Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said in a note Monday that the Blue Oval's cuts could exceed the 8,000 salaried employees targeted by rival General Motors Co. Ford's response: "pure speculation."

Ford CEO Sherif Marakby has posted a detailed overview of the automaker's self-driving strategy, perhaps in an effort to show that the company will push through with its plans under his leadership. Ford is recalling nearly 1.5 million Focus compact cars in North America because a fuel system problem can cause the engines to stall without warning. The recall covers cars from the 2012 through 2018 model years with 2-liter four-cylinder engines. Ford says a valve in the fuel system can stick in the open position, causing too much vacuum, and an engine control computer may not detect the problem. Excessive vacuum can cause the gas tank to deform, as well as other problems.

Ford resumed U.S. production of the midsized Ranger pickup on Monday for the first time in seven years. The move is part of a plan to strengthen Ford’s historically robust presence in profitable trucks at a time when the automaker faces pressure from shareholders and an uncertain future. Ford shares are down more than 30 percent this year, and the automaker is contending with high costs for materials, threats from traditional competitors and disruptive tech companies, as well as a trade war.

Ford has decided not to bring the Raptor variant of the new Ranger pickup to the United States. Ford will be making cuts to its 70,000-strong white-collar workforce in a move it calls a "redesign" of its staff to be leaner, have fewer layers, and offer more decision-making power to employees, the company announced. The number of jobs that will be axed is unknown at this point. “A lot of the (reorganization) is about making different choices about strategy,” Chief Financial Officer Bob Shanks told NBC News, adding that the goal isn’t just to slash spending but to improve the “fitness” of the company.

Ford made a surprise unveiling by its Turkish design center (Ford Otosan) at this year's IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hannover, Germany. The American truck manufacturer revealed its F-Vision concept heavy-duty truck, a commercial vehicle that combines clean energy, autonomous driving, and many other futuristic features.

The neighborhood is asking the auto-maker for rent subsidies, home repair grants, small business programs, and workforce training in its major Corktown development.

'It would not be profitable to build the Focus Active in the U.S. given an expected annual sales volume of fewer than 50,000 units and its competitive segment,' Ford said. Ford just announced that it’s abandoning plans to sell the Focus Active — which the company makes in China — in the United States because of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. The car was supposed to be one of two models that Ford planned to sell in the US going forward as it shifts its lineup to be almost exclusively SUVs and trucks. Now, the only car Ford will sell in the US is the Mustang.
