Hey Snapzu! What is your job, and how much do you like (or hate) it?

I'll start: I work as a systems administrator. I got here by networking, and slowly working up from entry level positions. Lots of hard work and lots of training (and lots of bullshit). I'm not even kidding, there were days when I cried in the bathroom out of work stress and frustrations. But I'm glad I'm here now. I feel like there's good days and bad days, just like any other job. Sometimes it feels like there's more bad than good, it really depends on the day and my mood. But overall, I'm pretty happy.

I also work in IT in Helpdesk/Desktop Support/Systems Administration (depending on what the next contract requires). I'm getting really, really tired of dealing with user problems although I still enjoy tackling interesting problems and working out solutions. I'm always looking for more excuses to find a scripting solution to a common problem.

IT Tech here too (2nd level with some networking). While some individual problems and people can get me pissed off from time to time I still manage to really enjoy it. I think a lot of it really matters if you have a team you get on with around you. We're like family in this office (we even have a grumpy granddad).

Retail pharmacist. Hate is not a good enough word for it. Money is good though and I've become trapped in my spot by lifestyle creep. Any other job anywhere would be at least a 20% pay cut and I simply can't do it. The anxiety and rage will eventually get me. The job has become a sales position with endless unreasonable quotas. And the people. Good God the people. Anyway, hope this helps someone starting out rethink this career.

    Day Job:

IT Tech for an Educational Establishment. As an actual nerd I really do love my job being a professional nerd. I've always been a "people person" too so I really enjoy seeing as many people as I do (I support about 350 people).

    Evening (& occasion day/weekend) Job:

Comic Book Artist. SUPER enjoy it, love the feeling when I get a return visit at a con from a kid telling me how much they enjoyed the book and wanting another, spending time with stupidly talented artists, etc.

Day job: I work in Research admin (nursing, midwifery and social work) which is really interesting (to me anyway!). I am the little cog that keeps about 150 other cogs turning and brings them together in one slick machine. I do a bit of everything, write policy, report the committees, comms and marketing, intranet pages, sickness, absence and a million other things. I love it because it is so varied.

    Part time:

    - I am a Parter in a burlesque business, now retired performer. We run a bi-monthly society meet up and source performers for private an corporate events an run burlesque hen parties in the north west. I am also, newly, assistant editor of 21st century burlesque
    - I blog for Time Out Manchester
    - I have a sewing blog that I get sent free stuff to review or make and I am self employed as a seamstress, so I make a few bits and bobs for people and other businesses

I love all of the above as they're way more creative than my full time day job and if I didn't have them to keep me going I'd probably be very sad. Having the balance is really important to my happiness I've found.

My job title is Senior Process Control, I work in a petro-chemical industry. If you want a visual image of what I do imagine Homer from the Simpsons, but in stead of a nuclear power plant, I extract alcohol (not the drinking type) and carbonyls out of feed stock. I hate my job, it consist of sitting around and doing nothing for 12 hour shifts most days. That is why I am currently doing my welding inspector course. Also, money.

I'm a civil engineer. I build and rebuild roads and bridges and boat ramps and bike paths and stuff. By "I build" I mean that I design and/or administer a contracted design. I don't actually get in the equipment very often at work. Some contractors are better to work with than others, but I want to be at this job for a long time. I really enjoy watching a project go from design to final product.

I have a great job, I get to break software for a living. I'm a software test engineer, as they call it here. And that means that I work together with developers to find faults and problems in business software. Currently busy with an end-to-end test, which means that the application we're working on gets hooked up to the live (test) enviroments of the other applications we're depended on to test if the connections all work well and if we can follow the complete process from front-end to back-end.

What I love about my job is that I am instrumental for the quality of a piece of software that millions of people will be using.

What I hate about my job is the commute, and stubborness of people tasked with maintaining the end-to-end test environment.
