    I prefer Linux, but working in IT means I use and support Windows. I've supported Windows from 95 through 10, and none of them have given me headaches like 10. When updates break sys prep and your documentation doesn't even acknowledge it, there's something seriously wrong.

      Linux, gotcha. Reason I'm asking is because I've been looking into alternative operating systems recently, and I was just checking if there was some other good option I was overlooking. And I completely agree with your opinion on Windows 10; it just has too many problems to be appealing to me as it is.

        If you're looking to dip your toe then I personally recommend an Ubuntu variant like Kubuntu or Mint. They're very robust and typically work straight out of the box for most hardware. It's harder to get reliable support for bleeding edge hardware but anything over than a few months is typically covered.

          Mint is actually the precise version of Linux I was considering getting. It's nice to have a recommendation for it, thanks! :)

          Man, I wish we could recommend regular Ubuntu, but the unity launcher just kinda kills it at this point. I've tried to use it, but I just could never come to like it.

          Mint is definitely a good distro, though.

          @SuperCyan -

          I've never liked the original Ubuntu distro, but I found KDE extremely easy to learn and configure. That's why I usually recommend Kubuntu rather than the base Ubuntu. I also think Lubuntu and Xubuntu offer excellent alternative desktops although I also tend to install the Flux desktop on anything I run. It appeals to the minimalist in me since I don't build a computer to stare at the desktop. If all I want is a platform to run the applications I want, minimalist is the way to go.
