Dialects and accents...yeah, those are stupid things to judge people on, but many people do it anyway, even if they aren't aware of it. I was reading an interesting article about it a while ago. It might've been part of one of Tom Wolfe's books. It was talking about how people would take classes to lose their accent, so that people would take them seriously. It can be very racist or classist, depending upon the accent / dialect.
That's what the bottom half said. The top half discusses how you think anyone that has an accent that you don't approve of is trash, or uneducated. Then you talked about not being racist and acknowledging that everybody's just a little bit racist. But, hey, gold medal in mental gymnastics buddy! Maintaining that kind of cognitive dissonance is hard!
Right, you're not racist at all! You just think anyone that doesn't speak the way you want, act the way you want, or dress the way you want is trash or ignorant! Totally not racist! I mean, you stumbled over a couple special pleading fallacies, a black-or-white fallacy, a no true scotsman fallacy, a genetic fallacy, an anecdotal fallacy, and combined a tu quoque with an ad hominem towards the end there... but you sure displayed your startling debate skills! Yeah, I think I'll go talk to a tree. I'm sure I'll find that conversation to be more stimulating and internally consistent.
This is a perfect illustration of what I'm talking about: prejudice based upon dialect or accent. Why do you think these are "trash", but others are "cultural or national"? I assure you that all accents and dialects have a culture.
Just because someone speaks differently then you doesn't mean that they are ignorant or shitty people. You need to get out more if that is seriously your view on people.
