Cemeteries freaked me out big time! We had an old pre-war cemetery that was run down and turned into a park when I was a kid and it was the only path to the beach and other places we liked to play at when we were kids. Walking back in the evening was terrifying.
Well, really anytime it was dark it was terrifying! Obviously more so if I was walking alone, so those were the worst moments. Sometimes I would hear noises, so that made me even more paranoid. Overall, I think I would still be a little paranoid walking through that park-cemetery hybrid today... :D
It may have been both, but I was blissfully unaware of Mongolian Gypsies (in fact, I remain unaware of them). According to my mom I knew it was Oscar because of a dream. I don't remember the dream, but I remember taking flying leaps into and out of my bed every day for months in order to avoid being grabbed. High adventure for a five year old!
They can't be worse than the Sephardic Inuits and Russian Zulus that I've chased out of there over the years. Usually telling them Oscar said he'd be back is all it takes.
I went to see a production of Snow White as Disney on Ice when I was maybe a little bit young for this kind of show. The scream that sounded when the witch came out frightened me and left me scared to death of witches for a good decade after that.
Parents, never underestimate the effects too loud noises can have on your young children.

What's the worst moment you remember?

IT.
Grandpa was Santa Claus one year -- lets just say I was terrified of Christmas ever since.
The winter when Oscar the Grouch was living under my bed was terrifying.
Wait, what? Are you sure that it wasn't just Mongolian Gypsy's? How do you know it was Oscar.

The platoon of soldiers with bayonets that lived under the sheets at the bottom of my bed until I was nine. I would not stretch out in bed. :)
