F/SN is an amazing visual novel by type moon. Like really great. There are 3 "route" (I don't the correct wording in english) : Fate, UBW (unlimited blades works) and HF (Heaven Feel). The player discovers them in this order.
Studio Deen got the adaptation of the 1st "route" (Fate) as a tv series and the 2nd (Unlimited Blade Works) as a movie. They butcher it. Emiya was already pretty hard to get behind, but them made it really hard with poor dialogue ("People die when they are killed") and a terrible script.
UFOtable got the right to do a prequel Fate/Zero witch is pretty great but spoils the end of Fate/Stay Night. And in 2014-2015 they did a re-adaptation of UBW as a tv series and it turned out pretty good.
If you are brave enough I would recommend the Visual Novel (around 70h for Fate/UBW/HF) then watch Fate/zero then UBW (2014).
