Google, please fix Android's slow, bloated share UI
Sharing from one app to another has been a mainstay of Android for years and years. It was one of the features that first drew me to Android: no more copying and pasting, no more having to open Twitter or WhatsApp to send a picture I just saw in my Gallery. Apps could talk to each other and the experience felt more cohesive and seamless.

Google's plan to fix texting on Android is really about the death of SMS
Google finally has a plan to fix Android's texting problem. This week, the company confirmed its long-rumored plan to improve messaging on Android and bring its features up to par with other popular messaging apps like Apple's iMessage. Google being Google, though, the plan is much more complicated than simply improving its own Android Messages app (though that's certainly part of it). Instead, Google is beginning what will be a years-long effort to get carriers and phone makers to all agree to work together and commit to using the same standard for messaging, called Rich Communications Services (RCS).

I'd rather have excellent software over flashy hardware
A couple weeks ago, Android Central's Hayato Huseman offered the question of "Is hardware or software a bigger determining factor when buying a phone?" This is a question that's helped settle countless smartphone-buying decisions throughout time, and it's one I felt like answering. Both hardware and software are required to create any phone, but in my case, I'd much rather use one with a top-of-the-line software experience – even if it means settling for mediocre hardware.

Hands-on with Android P on Wear OS: This smartwatch doesn't need a charger
After officially rebranding Android Wear to Wear OS a few weeks ago, Google has released a developer preview for the Huawei Watch 2 that gives us an early look at some of the improvements Android P will bring to the platform. The preview system image is available on the Android Developers site, where Google also provides instructions on how to install it through ADB on any Windows, Mac, or Linux computer. The developer preview works on both the standard Watch 2 and the more ritzy Huawei Watch 2 Classic — I've been testing it on the latter for a few days now, and making notes of some of the changes made to Wear OS.

Google loses Android battle and could owe Oracle billions of dollars
Google just lost a major copyright case that could cost it billions of dollars and change how tech companies approach software development. An appeals court said on Tuesday that Google violated copyright laws when it used Oracle's open-source Java software to build the Android platform in 2009. Tuesday's ruling is the latest development in a topsy-turvy eight-year battle between Google (GOOG) and Oracle (ORCL).

Nokia 7 Plus Hits the UK on 2nd May, Comes With a Free Google Home Mini
Nokia, or rather HMD which owns the Nokia brand name these days, releases a lot of phones. So many, in fact, that it's quite easy to accidentally tune out and focus on other companies that have a much lengthier release cycle. You might want to pay attention to this, however, because the Nokia 7 Plus arrives 2nd May and will come with a free Google Home Mini during its first month on sale.
