It's not hard to believe the article about Ubuntu being the most searched, Canonical spent the last 10-15 years pushing that particular brand as the user friendly Linux anybody can use, they even for a long time had the Wubi installer so it was like installing any other windows software for those that wanted to dual boot easily, I'm sure they've lost market share thanks to even friendlier Mint, but I can't imagine they won't be the top dog for a long time yet for casuals.
I think another reason Ubuntu is the most searched is that so many distros out there are based on Ubuntu. Therefore those on Ubuntu-based distros, if they can't find an answer in their own forum area, will head to Ubuntu's website to get the answers they're seeking.
