Lauren Singer doesn’t come off as an environmental evangelist. She’s unassuming when she speaks, and doesn’t raise an eyebrow when you admit that you eat meat or drink water out of disposable plastic bottles. She even wears a black leather jacket (bought second-hand). But she doesn’t joke around when it comes to trash.

Wow. What a fluff piece. Sounds like someone gushing about their neat new roommate rather than actually providing information or hard data. And, she lived in NYC. It's not terribly hard to live that sort of lifestyle whenever you have a dozen restaurants within easy walking distance of your flat. 23, too.
I'd love to see where this is in 20 years after a marriage, 2 kids, and a career.
Excellent point. Its a nice "pet project", but at the end of the day focusing on your self and your own 0 percent trash only to throw it in everyone's face is in essence extremely selfish. I would rather create some waste but stop 20 others from creating an additional 20% than just focus on myself and then have these types of articles written about me. Ohh and yea, when she gets bored with this crusade as /t/idlethreat so eloquently put it... her life style will change into a more complex social setting, and shes going to have a hard time giving a shit in the same manner as she does now. Who knows though, she may prove us all wrong!
