I can see this could either be a security knightmare of stollen accounts or a cumbersome processes that would require at least a blood sacrifice to the carrier gods to complete.

What about multiple accounts ? In developing nations, multi-SIM phones are very popular (I know, I live in one). Will this technology allow multiple accounts to be active at the same time ?

I don't give a crap for thinner phones, but I don't want unnecessary risks or inconveniences, and right now, traditional SIMs are convenient and safe enough for my taste.

As long as mobile operators treat e-SIMs as standard SIMs, it shouldn't be that big of an issue. My worry is that they don't.

Years ago, when CDMA was still a thing where I lived, I imported a few phones at less than half the price. I took them to a store to have them activated and was told that it wasn't possible because 'were not compatible' or that they 'were not approved to be used in the country'. It took a few attempts but I eventually found one that was willing to activate it locally. With a simless phone, the operator could do the same thing, and decide that they don't want to support or activate imported or non-approved phones.

I'm with /u/Nerdeiro in that I don't give a shit about thinner phones. I can't stand this obsession that blogs have with thinner or premium feeling phones. I'll take functionality over form any day.

I've had sprint for years and they never gave me a SIM card until my current s4. Its hell. You're tied to your phone until you get an upgrade and you cant just switch on the fly something I used to do a lot back when I was on t mobile and could get used phones rather cheaply. Now if I need to change a phone I'd have to call in and have it activated which takes on average an hour if the phone gods are smiling that day, not to mention no hope of unlocking and taking you're phone with you. I'd rather have a thicker more durable phone than a pane of glass with a ball and chain tied around it.
