Jeez if i could pick something for Telltale to turn into a game Minecraft wouldn't even have crossed my mind. I generally trust these guys to make an awesome and enjoyable game but I can't see myself picking this one up (although I'm also thinking I may not be the target audience).
All other TT games have been so enjoyable and on-point, but I'm with you on this one, I just can't see myself picking this one up. I may be swayed though - the animation reminds me of Element Animation who create hilarious Minecraft shorts that are beautifully rendered, that may sway me with this game. I'll wait until reviews are out before buying, I think.
I haven't played enough of their games, but what I've played I enjoyed immensely. However, I am quiet surprise that this seems to be a rather serious/dark game. A least from what we see on the trailer. I would've expected a more of a light hearted adventure. We'll have to wait for more footage and see how this develops.
Yeah, I was not expecting this either. I think it would have been cooler if they gone with the light-hearted, ridiculous route. Something like the Lego Movie. Maybe they still have, who knows.
I'd prefer that as well, since I enjoy that sort of thing.
So true. One thing I'm really left wondering is, what will this game really have to do with Minecraft other than the graphics and the animals, given the game is so open-ended and lacks any real story? As in, is it just tacked under Minecraft's name for attention and sales? Nevertheless, it's TT, and I trust it can't really be entirely bad, no matter what happens.
Wow, that actually looks like it may be really fun!
To be honest I think it'll be interesting to see if it has a backwards effect on Minecraft. I saw some nice nether structures at the end there, some better village buildings in the middle. It'd be nice if the game were to spur the Minecraft dev team to fix village generation, add more diversity to nether fortresses to match the Telltale game, etc.
I don't know if I'm just pessimistic, but I just feel like Minecraft is just turning into a money grab.
At first, it was just a game, and that was fine. When they started selling some merch, it was fine (Hell, I have an old Minecraft shirt somewhere around here). Now, it just seems like Minecraft is just being forced into everything. There's apparel, toys, and a bunch of other things that are just Minecraft themed. Now, they're just pushing new versions of the game. There's not a device out that, except for anything Nintendo, that you can't play Minecraft on. Now they're trying to push a story mode? The game's almost 6 years old now (Well, since alpha), but it just keeps getting dragged along - being shoved into anything that they think that people can buy. I'm all for making fat stacks, but it just seems like they're starting to go overboard. How much longer until a Minecraft movie? What about a Minecraft TV series?
Are you aware that Microsoft recently bought out Mojang? That almost certainly explains this spin-off at least.
To be honest, when it comes to Minecraft and story, I'd rather watch stuff on YouTube like Yogscast's Shadow of Israphel. At this point, the TellTale formula is becoming a little samey and the quality of their recent stuff just hasn't really been there. Here's hoping it's good though, 'cus there's a lot of people that really love Minecraft.
