Just cancelled my Spotify subscription and uninstalled the app. I was already a bit disenchanted with the service given how hard they try to push you to use Facebook.

I did the same thing a couple of days ago. Really not happy about the push to facebook.

If you look on the support forum there's a thread that probably near 100 pages now with people just asking for the simple feature of being able to change your profile picture without having to login through Facebook. I contacted support about it because I figured, hey, if I'm a paying customer, I should be able to access all the features of your service, but nope. Support confirmed that changing your profile picture on Spotify is a feature that's exclusive to Facebook users.

It's a shame, because I really enjoyed the service, but it doesn't provide me with enough value for me to pay them to collect my data and resell it.

Welp, looks like it's back to pirating music. I tried to play fair and they blew it.

You still have deezer for free, and there are some cheap alternatives.

Haven't heard of deezer, so I'll look into that, thanks!

I had a Spotify account, a barely-used free one, but still.

Now I'm in the process of getting it deleted. I do not want to be snooped on by a music service. All they should want from me is what music I listen to, and nothing more.

How does one go about the process of getting their account deleted? This article, along with some posts by other people, has me convinced to cancel my account (starting by uninstalling the app and things).

I had to Google this one, because it's not directly on Spotify's website. But here goes:

        1) Log in to Spotify.
        2) Go to this webpage: https://www.spotify.com/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support/?contact
        3) Fill out the form
        4) Wait till one of their agents has done so.

        There's sadly no other way.

Btw, I'd advise anyone doing this to say why you want to delete your account. Perhaps that'll help reverse course on the privacy policy for other users.

Oh and don't forget what kind of personal details you filled in.

Thanks so much! I have sent them an email explaining my reasoning.

I got a security question from them to confirm my date of birth. Which I gave them. Wanted to say a whole lot more, but I decided against it. It's not this service rep's fault, just his company's.

Also having read Spotify's CEO explanatory words left a bad taste in my mouth. "Oops, we forgot to mention that it's all opt-in" seems a bit hollow, and left me wondering if he had done that if there'd been no big stink about it.

Here are some other snaps you may like...
