I think that it means we have been messing things up for a while,but of course on a larger scale since the industrial revolution. We have the technology now that tells we are messing up things. Even with the tech we do it anyway.
Yeah, you would think that with all this scientific research and advanced technology we would find plenty of reasons and ways to stop screwing up our planet... Nope, short term gain over long term survival is what we humans seem to understand best.
