Reddit is still in turmoil
It’s been one year since Reddit revolted. When the company cracked down on revenge porn and subreddits containing offensive content last summer, the backlash was swift and ultimately led to the ouster of interim CEO Ellen Pao. Although Pao was seen as the driving force behind efforts to make Reddit respectable enough to appeal to advertisers, the company continued its clean-up after her departure, making diverse hires and keeping up with the anti-harassment policy instituted during Pao’s tenure.

This article seems to focus on women and diversity hires leaving the company. Are they implying that Reddit is racist or sexist because of that? Seems a bit of a stretch. Reddit seems to be a victim of its own success. What makes these sites fun and awesome is their newness, novelty and community. But once the community becomes everyone, it no longer feels special. Some of the old guard becomes territorial, while the noobs run amok testing their limits. Just like any message board, the trolls drive away the nice people and remain because they are the loudest and they get the most attention. I don't think there's any formula to eliminate this. Although anonymous avatars probably doesn't help.
Reddit has always been in turmoil. Of course, whether that includes the actual paid staff, I wouldn't know. As a redditor for the last 8 years, always seemed like turmoil to me. A bit like life really.
“During all the leadership regimes, there were multiple incidents where employees would drink too much and end up in embarrassing and inappropriate situations,”
I had no idea about the drinking culture. That's hilarious...add doing lines of crank to that program and I'll just bet it's a real shooting range in those offices!
I just pictured the scene from Wolf of Wallstreet! All they would be missing is the midgets.
Gasp... you can't say this!
Just quoting the movie!
It's San Francisco, South of Market. They're moving to the Tenderloin. There are no supply problems with dwarves or little people.
Reddit was nice while it lasted. The original premise of the readers/users deciding what was worthy of taking a look at though up or down votes has degenerated into petty dictatorships where politically motivated mods can eliminate any speech or speaker they disapprove of. Ostensibly the changes were made to draw in corporate advertising, but in reality all it has done is champion censorship. Aaron Swartz would not recognize what has now become of his dream :(.
