* oppressive government that cheerfully murders it's people whenever they get feisty (Arab Spring. Kept gunning everyone down, including journalists).
* rebel army (armies?) that were originally interested in freeing Syria, now more interested in imposing Salafist (ie, Muslim fundamentalist) ideas on the country instead.
And russia's backing the government.
I see absolutely zero reason to become a part of this in any way, shape, or form.
