Syrian army starts using new weapons from Russia: military source
The Syrian military has recently started using new types of air and ground weapons supplied by Russia, a Syrian military source told Reuters on Thursday, underlining growing Russian support for Damascus that is alarming the United States. "The weapons are highly effective and very accurate, and hit targets precisely," the source said in response to a question about Russian support. "We can say they are all types of weapons, be it air or ground."

From what little I know of the Syrian situation:
* oppressive government that cheerfully murders it's people whenever they get feisty (Arab Spring. Kept gunning everyone down, including journalists).
* rebel army (armies?) that were originally interested in freeing Syria, now more interested in imposing Salafist (ie, Muslim fundamentalist) ideas on the country instead.
And russia's backing the government.
I see absolutely zero reason to become a part of this in any way, shape, or form.
