    That depends on what you think education is, as opposed to what education should ideally be. When it comes to brass tacks, given what I see as education in the world around me, 'education' isn't protective against manipulation, so much as a gold star awarded for subjectivity to it.

      I guess I'm a bit idealistic (as usual). I should say "critical thinkers" instead of "educated people", but to me the most important goals of education are to teach critical thinking and to foster curiosity. Otherwise it's conditioning, brainwashing or indoctrination, not education.
