    When I read about the MtGox case last year, everything about the supposed "hack" appeared shady and often outright false. BitCoin itself uses a great underlying concept, and I hope it can evolve into something beneficial.

      Something like Bitcoin but backed by gold would be pretty sweet, and would replace government funny money in widespread use, if our rulers somehow failed to prevent that from happening, of course.

        Gold is way to useful to be used as a currency.

          But it was used as a medium of exchange for ages already. So clearly it's not.

            I don't understand your logic here?

              "medium of exchange" ~ "currency" ~ "money"

              @shiranaihito -

              Gold's usefulness wasn't as apparent until the computer age though, as it's use as a conductor. So your retort is useless.

              You're smelling a bit trollish now so I'll just move on.

              You're right, but it's not worth arguing with him.

    I lost my bitcoins with MtGox too. That was when I quit the cryptocurrency train. Can't trust the marketplaces anywhere. I held my coins in cold storage for most of the time, still lost them when I wanted to trade them for real money again.
