Commented in Deepfakes Are Now Making Business Pitches
I'm thinking it's less about perfection and more about accessibility. I can imagine small startups and mom and pop businesses having access to professional grade end results rather than having to spend a fortune on the classic approach.

Commented in The Case Against Google
A long, but interesting read. It's more about how Google has affected other tech startups as opposed to how Google has affected consumers. An in-depth and well-researched piece of journalism.

Commented in Plastc swiped $9 million from backers and just completely vanished
That's generally what happens to startups that fail, I don't think they stick around for long after going into bankruptcy. Really nothing surprising here.

Commented in Owner of ClintonKaine.com wants $90,000
all the startups that buy expensive domains feed this nonsensic frenziness which creates an actual market for domains... a market of intermediaries that shouldn't exist

Commented in Your Edgy Startup Idea Is Stupid
It seems foolish to demand startups stop doing something that is working. Just because it's viral and short lived doesn't make it unsuccessful as long as the company realizes their idea won't last them forever. The author also assumes theses startups are meant to be someone's livelihood. If someone goes into an idea as a side project, it doesn't matter if they're known as "the guy that sends dicks." The only problem I see with viral popularity is often people ARE doing it as a side project and then suddenly get overwhelmed by the sheer popularity of their product because they didn't plan for it to grow so big.

Commented in Startups Rocket To The Front Of The Space Race
Finally- Humanity is stepping into the real world. We cannot ignore the rewards space exploration provides our species. Sure it's costly and dangerous- but you know what's even more costly and dangerous? Having all our proverbial eggs in one Earth sized basket. If the species is to survive we must claim our birthright.
These startups are just the innovation to act as a springboard to that end. Hopefully they can help inspire a new (and longer lasting) space race.

Commented in Stop calling it the “Sharing Economy.” That isn’t what it is.
When someone starts talking about "the free market" and "the level playing field" you know there are monopolies or oligopolies involved.
Two sets of rules for “competitors” usually doesn’t end in fair competition
Most of the things he covers are markets with very strict rules or oligopolies. Copyright is a government enforced monopoly ownership. There is no "competition" there. Taxis are usually government regulated because the technology, that they rely on, "meters" need to be regulated or people get ripped off or worse. The disruptive tech for taxis is mobile phones with GPS that enable everyone involved: drivers, passengers, companies to monitor what's happening. This is definitely disruptive technology. As for the use of the word "sharing" maybe he's right about that. "Much more flexible renting" doesn't have the same ring.
An article filled with inconsistencies:
I’m cautious, sure, I tend not to be an early adopter
Before you brand me a hater or an enemy of startups, understand that I am the exact opposite: I love startups.--
Tip: If you really want to be a rebel, make your idea so great that people will want to rewrite the rules.
Isn't that what's happening with Uber?

Commented in Facebook is rumored to be building a music streaming service to compete with Spotify and Apple Music
This sounds really mean but I hope it flops hard so that new startups recognize the space is full. The services in place meet the needs of every potential customer at a reasonable price with great service.

Commented in My startup failed, and this is what it feels like…
This is the true reality for most startups. Few have the courage to make posts like this. Respect for that.

Commented in Yahoo buys image recognition firm IQ Engines to reorganize Flickr
Yahoo's been buying all these startups, but I've yet seen one being placed into their network. They just shut them down and that's the end of that.

Commented in Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer’s One-Year Report Card
She took on a big job. It's hard to turn around an old crusty company like yahoo. She's been trying to make it more appealing to the younger generation buy acquiring new and hip startups, but I guess it's still too early to tell what happens of it.

Commented in Has NSA Spying Killed US “Cloud” services & Email in Europe, Brazil?
Yep same... I bet all the cloud companies are stressing right now, even though I'm sure they are making major bank. 2 of the biggest success stories online were cloud storage startups.
