Interesting article. Though, with Texas, I have to disagree with them after having been to that SeaWorld. I'd say a better park in Texas is Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, probably the best water park I've ever been to.

Agreed. I got to the Texas section and thought "Really? Sea World, really? I'll just pretend they said Schlitterbahn".

I think they just needed to get SeaWorld in as California has way too many awesome parks and Florida has Disney. Although after looking at the website I think Schlitterbahn will be on my agenda for the next time I visit Texas.

I agree SeaWorld seems like a little bit of a cop out. However I have not been to the one in Texas. Actually the only park I've been to there was Six Flags over Texas so I probably would not be the best judge. I have never been to Schlitterbahn but after looking at the website it seems like it would be a very fun water park!

What?? I've never been but What about the dragster and the gate guardian. There are so many great coasters at cedar. Where is six flag great america located?

Six Flags Great America is located in Gurnee, IL, which is a northern suburb of Chicago. They had the original Batman the Ride, Raging Bull and many other great coasters as well. Actually my favorite Cedar Point Coaster is Millennium Force which is included with the other coasters mentioned in my top five.

I've been to both, but I'd have to say Cedar Point always gets my dollar if I can make it.

Fun story: My dad and a couple friends of mine went one summer and tried to hit up as many coasters as we could. We were seriously hurting by dusk, most of the rides were closed, and the park had began to empty out. It was 5 minutes to close and we noticed Top Thrill Dragster was still running. I came up with the crazy idea to try running to it and seeing if the attendant would let us in as the park hadn't technically closed. He saw us running up, looked at his watch, and let us in. There was one other small group that made it in after us but we were the last cart to go up. It was an amazing sight to reach the top and view the park at dark and we left that night feeling like champions.

There is something about seeing the park at night from the top of a tall coaster. Nothing like it.

The memories that I have of Cedar Point as a kid! It was amazing to get to ride all the amazing roller coasters that they had. I still think that my favorite is the Raptor. Nothing like having your feet free soaring over the sky.

Cedar Point is a great park! Especially if you are a coaster enthusiast like I am.

As an Oregonian, I am terribly sorry for our lame and aging amusement parks.

as an Alaskan, I was about to try and make you feel better, but H2Oasis sounds pretty neat. I've never even heard of it, but I'll have to check it out!

I think this is the case in a lot of states. The one and only amusement park in Iowa is the one they listed as the best in this article. It has a couple of coasters but nothing out of the ordinary or anything new in the last few years. Although in fact checking this it looks like they are putting in a brand new coaster for next year so maybe there is hope in Oregon as well! Oregon also has a lot of other adventure things, zip-lining, kayaking, whitewater rafting etc.

Nickelodeon Universe? Are you kidding me? What about Valley Fair? You know, there is more to Minnesota than the MOA...

Maybe it's the appeal of being an inside park? But I agree I would spend the day at Valley Fair over Mall of America anytime.

Mini donuts > rides. But even though rides make me feel nauseous, they are most definitely exhilarating. Especially when the ride is so old that you're almost positive your seat's about to fly right off the tracks to your certain death.

Sesame Place as the best for Pennsylvania? Really?

I haven't been to any of the parks in Pennsylvania. What would you recommend? Hersey?

I was wondering what would make the cut for Arizona since we don't have much in the true amusement park category. It's a shame that the best we have is Castles and Coasters. It's nowhere near the same level as so many of the other parks listed. I don't understand why we can't seem to get a real Six Flags style amusement park here.

I wonder if the heat would factor into why they don't have one. Although it's cold up here 9 months of the year and we still have one.

I know! If states with severe winter weather can have amusement parks then our heat shouldn't be a factor. Maybe theme park operators think we're too close to all that California has to offer and wouldn't be able to generate the number of customers needed to keep things profitable.

I could see that being an issue as well. But I know it does suck not to have a park close.

I never realized how lucky I was to grow up in Central VA...well, lucky I was close to both Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Some of those states have nothing! Delaware's entry is the Rehoboth Funland? Jesus.

Yeah I grew up about an hour away from Six Flags Great America and I can't imagine not going every summer.

Here are some other snaps you may like...
