Is the gun modern, or one from 150 years ago?
I think everything about the situation would be the same, except for the medical care.
If the other events in history stayed the same, the safety precautions would have been much higher and it wouldn't even be possible to bring a kitchen knife close to the president.
If I recall correctly Lincoln died when they extracted the bullet, which the article fails to mention, tsk tsk. The belief is he would may have lived for quite some time and highly relative because of swelling of the brain if not death from clotting, seizures, etc..
