Clickbait crap. One google search later...

Coal is responsible for 43% of carbon dioxide emissions from fuel combustion, 36% is produced by oil and 20% from natural gas.

So, of all of the global carbon dioxide emissions from fuel combustion, charcoal grills will fall into that 1% sliver left over when you ignore Coal, Oil, and CNG. So, please stop cooking your steaks so we can build and run more dirty coal plants.

    To make it better...

This "scientific study" was performed by Eric Johnson. Eric works at Atlantic Consulting. According to the WHOIS record, Atlantic Consulting is a Sole Trader company (basically, a one man company)

Haven't dug any further than that. But it looks rather fishy.

Figured ill post it to stir up a discussion. I completely agree with you on the subject... people have been cooking their food the natural way for thousands of years, and now we must stop and use fucking lighter fluid to do it because its marginally cleaner? I love the flavour that my charcoal grill gives my meat/veggies and Im not about to stop grilling on it because some asshole tells me it releases a little bit more carbon into the atmosphere. One decent forest fire will release more carbon than every fucking charcoal grill in existence for the next 10 years.

Well, there you go. I didn't even take 'natural calamity' into effect. The entire western end of the united states bursts into flame every couple of years. I can't begin to fathom how much CO2 happens to blow out during that time.

Go ahead and BBQ, my good man. I'll do the same.
