I suspect dentists would still need to drill a cavity to get rid of the rotting. But then they wouldn't have to put a permanent crown because the tooth can re-grow its own dentine. I Imagine there would need to be at least a protective cap or temporary crown so the tooth can be shielded while it re-grows.

Yeah, because without it, how the hell do you chew without destroying your heavily weakened tooth. Still, the idea of tooth regeneration is awesome.
