Dental fillings that heal teeth could forever change trips to the dentist
Regenerative dental fillings that allow teeth to heal themselves have been developed by researchers, potentially eliminating the need for root canals. The treatment, developed by scientists from the University of Nottingham and Harvard University, earned a prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry after judges described it as a “new paradigm for dental treatments.” The tooth filling works by stimulating stem cells to encourage the growth of dentin—the bony material that makes up the majority of the tooth—allowing patients to effectively regrow teeth that are damaged through dental disease.

Heal teeth or re-grow dentine?
I suspect dentists would still need to drill a cavity to get rid of the rotting. But then they wouldn't have to put a permanent crown because the tooth can re-grow its own dentine. I Imagine there would need to be at least a protective cap or temporary crown so the tooth can be shielded while it re-grows.
Yeah, because without it, how the hell do you chew without destroying your heavily weakened tooth. Still, the idea of tooth regeneration is awesome.
