Between 17-20, I played bass in several speed metal bands (and funk bands, and rock bands, you name it. Got alcohol and a place to plug in, I'll show up). While it was fun, it absolutely fucked my hearing for the rest of my life. I was young, I was stupid.

Now, at 40, I'm stuck shopping for hearing aids so I'm able to keep up with conversations around the table, company meetings and giving talks. Hearing aids are horribly expensive. The cheapest, no-frills unit you can get is over 900 bucks each. Insurance don't cover them, so you're out 1K each ear just to be able to hear the birds singing in the trees, or listen to the rain fall.

300 bucks for a hearing device with that feature set is laughably cheap. Hoping the next generation will include an adjustable equalizer. If they can do it, and keep the costs low, then they will make millions. I ordered mine this morning.
