Hope you had a good time! To be honest, I never had a good idea of what math rock is. That band I posted is self-proclaimed as math rock so I followed their lead. This Town Needs Guns is really cool though, and math rock is a very appropriate name for it! Really busy sounds, really thought-out lines that just fit in somehow.
For anyone interested - From the math rock wiki page:
"Whereas most rock music uses a 4/4 meter (however accented or syncopated), math rock frequently uses asymmetrical time signatures such as 7/8, 11/8, or 13/8, or features constantly changing meters based on various groupings of 2 and 3. This rhythmic complexity, seen as "mathematical" in character by many listeners and critics, is what gives the genre its name."

Hey thanks for your input! Sorry I'm just responding now. I get what you're saying, that could be very hard in an isolated area. I would encourage you to research bands from the nearest larger city or from a different part of your region. I understand that each and every town or city might not have a lot going on in terms of music, but I think we should try to keep it reasonably close. That being said, I would love to hear your local artist as well as a couple newly discovered artists that you might find. Bandcamp gives you the ability to search by city. If anything is close enough, it's a really cool way to get into the stuff around you.
EDIT: I also got some feedback asking about [REQUEST]s where someone can post a city and wait for other users to reply with artists in that area. /u/Teakay, if you want to test out this method, feel free. I would encourage an attempt at your own research first, but if that fails try to follow this format :
[REQUEST] ["city, ST"] [Pref: "preferred genre"]

Jack Kotz comes off as electro psychadelia lite. It is real mellow and listenable. No lyrics on these tracks, although the occasional vocal line is thrown in. Just a nice sounding spaced-out guitar. I'm digging "Delay Me" right now.
Shaun Paul doesn't use drums, but the rhythm guitar and the occasional solo doesn't require it. Acoustic, garage, folk. It's a genuine sound. "Honey Dripper" is my favorite. "If You Were Me" is pretty solid too. Vocals remind me of a less intense Jack White.

Man, I love the variety. Great post! I went and gave the Franklin Electric and Bad Captain some love. They're both awesome. Are you from Canada? I'd love to hear from other scenes up there.

I personally do not have one. I will hit my friends' e-cig every one in a blue moon. I have no interest in getting one myself. I feel like they are not a great way to stop smoking because you are still bringing a foreign chemical into your body. They aren't as bad as cigarettes, but the healthiest alternative is to let your lungs be. This is an article posted by /u/bradd that basically says we don't know enough about long term health from e-cigs to make a call. There have been a lot of studies, but many of them have been supported by an interested case, leading to heavy bias. It does say that they are helping people to quit smoking, though.

"Any Reason"
This is a funny ad, but a quality campaign nonetheless. It's eye-opening, realizing it would be silly for anyone to judge you for not wanting to smoke.

That's a good idea and I'm sure there are many good people from the area that would be willing to fulfill those requests and many others that would be willing to dive into the scene to look for them. I do like the idea though. A few immediate concerns going that route: 1. the page could get flooded with unfulfilled requests or empty content that will bring the overall quality down. I do want people doing a little bit of research on their own so they can contribute to any kind of conversation that may follow. 2. do you think a lot of people would be into that 'reverse search' as in requesting a city? One use I can see is someone that is interested in a local scene but does not know where to begin. Yeah, I like that. For discovery's sake, I think that would be a good thing to implement.
Thanks for your input! Anything else that may come to mind, there is now a stickied post at /t/localmusic asking for input, so please feel free to check it out and weigh in on anything else!

800 lb Gorilla is a more funky band. Funk seems to be in around the Bloomington area nowadays. Lots of horns sections. These guys are great, and they're doing everything they can to get big. They play nearly every night, with a handful of festivals this summer.
Plateau Below rocks out. These guys have a unique sound that remains simplistic and comes off as a depressed and drunken nursery rhyme riddled with speed. Aside from "Twiggy", my favorites are "Evaline" and "Riverside", but honestly this whole album is solid.
