Politics used to be about the art of the compromise. Now it's pure partisanship, and both sides blame the other for it. The old Russian arms control negotiating tactic: "What's mine is mine, what's yours is negotiable".
Absent something automatically disqualifying, cabinet appointment should garner 90+ votes.
