Car manufacturers usually do heavy testing for all scenarios when it comes to making innovations safe products, as a shattered windshield at 70mph would be disastrous. On the other hand, I wonder how dependable such a technology is, when my wipers break or get squeaky, its very easy to fix/replace them. This on the other hand could be a nightmare to find a mechanic to fix.
