As a matter of fact, I posted this up here for discussion because I was hoping I'd get some opinions on what people feel is the role of the Pope.
Don't get me wrong, he's an influential figure and his opinion has an impact on a lot of people regardless of the topic, but does that really mean that his opinion on fossil fuels is to worth this much attention?
It doesn't really matter. His job is to follow the PR script from the Fox News reporter the Vatican hired before Ratzinger retired. He's desperately trying to reform the image of the Church after so many PR failures. Whether or not this is relevant, it makes good press.
