Absolutely! I think that's what I love most about places like this. There's always so much history to discover, and there's just something intriguing about seeing a place that's got a finite amount of time left in its existence.

I am indeed using Lightroom. I've been trying to find a style that I like for quite some time, and have lately been gravitating towards this dark film simulation thing that's exhibited in this particular shot. I made a black and white preset that I really like, but I ended up liking the underexposed/dark color version a little better personally. I'll try brightening it up a bit and see how it looks. :)

This is color-corrected in Adobe Lightroom. I spent an hour or three one day playing with all the parameters of my photos and came up with this sort of film simulation thing here...it basically just underexposes the photo, clips the darkest tones, and shifts some of the colors around to make them stand out from each other slightly.

Oh wow! That's incredible. My dad was actually born on the island, which was part of the reason for the trip. I bet you've been to the church, or at least in the surrounding area! I'll put together an album of a few more shots that I managed to get while I was there, it would be really cool if you recognize any of the places that are still standing!

Thanks! I was actually only there to take pictures and record some wind sound effects for work, so we didn't see many animals besides bald eagles and small birds. Apparently the salmon run is only a month or so away...we just barely missed it!

And as far as I know, there aren't any large predators on the island. There are caribou on the southern part of Adak, but that whole area is a combination of wildlife reserve and hunting ground, so we didn't end up going down that way. Maybe next time I head out there I'll try to hike in that direction!

I have a few more from the trip, I'll probably put an album together once I've touched them up/color corrected them a bit. Adak is an amazing place that's full of history, and most of the buildings are in similar states of disrepair after being exposed to such harsh weather.

That would be awesome! Unfortunately, as far as I know, it was constructed while the U.S. military was occupying the island during World War II...but I'm not 100% on that. I'll have to look it up!

Thank you! :) The sky was really dark the entire time (well, as dark as the land of the Midnight Sun could be). I think we got about 3 minutes of blue sky on the last day I was there, and it was overcast like this the rest of the time.

It was certainly creepy! Unfortunately the church's floor is in such a horrible state of rot that I decided not to go in...I've got another photo of the inside that I was able to take without actually walking into the place. If there's enough interest, I'll post an album of shots from the island. I took something like 1500...so naturally there are about 10 passable pictures. :P
