I don't understand how physical relationships will seem "primitive". Even if it's a robot, you're still sticking something in a hole or having something stuck in your hole, just done by a robot. Still, should be interesting to see how it plays out.

Nevada and Amsterdam are going to need to pass laws to stop this, they can't have those legal workers being outsourced to robots. How will they collect taxes on the workers and the employer then. Not to mention the yearly license fee to be a worker.

No job is immune to being automated out. It's just the natural course of things.

Based on data suggesting that many young Japanese people are already avoiding sex and intimate relationships there are some suggestions that this may already be happening. Japanese men are already taking their virtual girlfriend apps away on holiday with them to the island of Atami.

    WTF?

Some of them even date their pillows. Guess it's better than them going out and serial killing...

That's one way to look at it. Another way is to think, "Well, they're not hurting anyone, so more power to them!"

We still have a pretty damn xenophobic culture. If I take a cinderblock to a Florida beach, rent out a condo for two, and jack off onto it for hours on end, people are going to think I'm weird as hell. But at the end of the day, what am I really hurting here? Myself? I won't get to reproduce this way? Who cares?

        Disclaimer: I'm not a bricksexual.

Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage. Its a concept album about the dangerous journey of a young man who plays music. After years of rock and sex he spirals out of control "Drowning in a swirling cesspool of his own steaming desire". Thankfully the Church of Appliantology is able to help him cure his sexual problems by enabling him to see that sex with machines is the way of life. Unfortunetly for Joe, during a rompus sex act with a toaster/pleasure bot he urinates on it and destroys it. He is sent to a prison. Thankfully all music has been banned and Joe has the oppurtunity to recover. He cant though and performs amazing guitar solos in his head. I wont tell you how it ends.

Its satire at its finest from one of the most intelligent men to walk this earth. Its a triple disc album but its full of funny ass songs (Catholic Girls, Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?), some amazing guitar work (Watermelon in Easter Hay, Crew Slut), and hilarious satire the entire time by the narrator 'The Central Scrutinizer'.

Im telling you, if you can digest it you will be rewarded with one of the greatest achievements in music history. Also, he totally called this shit 20 years ago.

    DON'T...DATE...ROBOTS!

But seriously, it's not a far fetch to imagine this. People had meaningful relationships via postal mail years ago and frequently never met, which eventually morphed into Prodigy and AOL (Did anyone ever hook up through Compuserve?). So while we don't necessarily need the physical sometimes, there are many people who can do without the mental. And maybe the robots can be operated by all those sex workers who will find themselves out of a job.

At what point does it stop being masturbation and become sex ?

Why would this become the norm? There are all sorts of high tech sex toys today and tons of free porn out there, yet you would be mortified if someone came over and saw your search history or you accidentally left your dildo or fleshlight out. People are still afraid to buy these products because they're afraid that it might show up on a bill or that someone will see the shipping label. So in that light, why would paying thousands of dollars for and then having sex with a robot be less stigmatized when a cheap toy can give you some release without worrying about the shame.
