People had meaningful relationships via postal mail years ago and frequently never met, which eventually morphed into Prodigy and AOL (Did anyone ever hook up through Compuserve?). So while we don't necessarily need the physical sometimes, there are many people who can do without the mental. And maybe the robots can be operated by all those sex workers who will find themselves out of a job.
