I actually did this earlier without this specific guide, and it is rather refreshing to use a new DE every once in a while. My laptop doesn't have the greatest specs, so using lighter environments like Xfce and MATE is great.
I'm having some problems with it, but I'm happy to hear it's working for you. I can't get my Nvidia drivers to work in 17.1 XFCE so I tried this and managed to get the driver installed and working. I might just have to use 17.2 Cinnamon until they release 17.2 XFCE if I can't get a few bugs worked out though.
