If you're ever interested in trying to play some games on Linux, check out /t/linuxgaming. It's a new tribe but questions are welcome, and the user base is slowly growing.

Edit: Before you read anything below, if you only want XFCE just download the 17.1 XFCE edition.
Edit 2: Actually, I wouldn't recommend anything that I said below. I just tried doing this today and it's crashed on me for unknown reasons multiple times. That being said, the Linux Mint 17.1 XFCE edition is great, and I would recommend it. The 17.2 XFCE edition should be coming out soon as well.
There currently isn't an XFCE edition for Mint 17.2 yet as far as I know. Just use the Cinnamon edition, and then install XFCE by using the following guide: http://linoxide.com/linux-how-to/install-xfce-4-12-mint-arch-linux/ This will leave you with both Cinnamon and XFCE, and you can choose between them at the login screen.

/u/fishknight my friend, I have heard your cry for help and arrived to save you using my power of technicality, which I wield in my double edged sword of technicality. Naturally, like any double edged sword, the double edged sword of technicality deals in both good news and bad news, never one without the other.
The good news: Technically, you are always under water at all times, water in its gaseous form, so breath easy my friend.
The bad news: Technically, the power to breath under water in its gaseous form is not technically a power, so you have no power. Technically, that makes you a normal human.
No need to thank me, my power comes with great responsibility, and should you ever need me again, I will be there.

I've never used MATE because I don't really think it's as lightweight as it claims to be. I primarily use XFCE, but also use cinnamon occasionally. If you really want a lightweight DE give XFCE a try.
As far as the hard drive speed with Mint, to be completely honest I'm really not the best person to answer that question, but the SSD is faster. My recommendation would be to install on both and then choose from there. If you do choose to install on the SSD just mount the 500gb drive as an additional volume for storage.

It's really up to you. I have both of my OS on different SSD. (Windows 7 and Mint 17.2) The installer for Mint is really straghtforward but If you want it to be as simple as possible you can have it automatically install to the 500gb HDD and it will set up your partitions for you, which for mint i think are swap and root by default.

My lineage eventually goes back to you, /u/picklefingers. You are the only user in the line that I don't outrank, or have a tie with.

I agree with you. In the larger subs it's just constant deja vu. There are still smaller subs that I would enjoy but I think that creating/being a part of new small tribes here is more enjoyable.

The difference is right in the name! (The real name) Don't get me wrong, the F35 is a really cool plane, but it's just not the same.

This is really cool! I've been reading some stuff in their forums for a little while now and now the only problem is that I'm seriously considering swapping distros again, and the only two that I've really seriously ever used before are Ubuntu and Mint. Do you think that there will be a steep learning curve switching from something ease of use oriented to Arch?
Edit: I've mad up my mind. I'm going to start the installation now. :D

It would be weird if it did, considering the amount of small tribes there are a lot of comments that must go unnoticed.

Do ignored comments affect your reputation, or do they just not matter?

I don't know how I've never heard of Antergos. Do you/have you ever used it or would you recommend just using Arch if you're capable?

This is really annoying, and it bothers me too. My temporary "fix" was to just have my browser (chrome) save my username and password, so all I have to do is click login every time I switch devices.

As a US citizen, I absolutely agree. Seeing the religious nuts go apeshit would be amazing. I would love it. Especially because the candidates that we get are going to be total shit anyways.

I know that's what I'm currently doing. I really just can't wait until Windows is a thing of the past and some type of Linux takes over. I know that's far fetched, but who knows.
