Pluto 'Totally Different' from Big Moon Charon, New Photos Show
The new images — which were taken Wednesday from a distance of 3.7 million miles — show that Pluto and Charon are very different bodies, though they circle a common center of gravity and are separated by a mere 12,200 miles, NASA officials said.

Isn't saying "Pluto and Charon are totally different" the same as saying "Earth and its Moon are totally different"?

I think what they mean is that Pluto and Charon could have very different compositions, while the Earth and the Moon are nearly the same composition.
Many people saying Pluto is not a planet, and the two might orbit around each other.
I'm just super excited for the images that come from the fly by. I've always wanted more detailed information on what Pluto looked like. Charon is now just as interesting.
