I think the darker tone will make the DC movie universe really refreshing (as far as super hero movies go). Marvel is a lot of fun because it is very much like watching a comic book; it is a lot of fun. The DC movies (from what we have seen so far) bring a nice bit of realism, with somewhat more "believable" conflicts.
I just wish that the darker tone didn't mean a washed out filter. Have you seen what Man of Steel looks like without all of the grey? It's gorgeous and feels far more like Superman.
