Things are outrageously segregated here on the east coast, not only economically but racially, politically and etc. I live in a safe, clean Italian neighborhood that leans republican and has negligible crime, while the black part of town looks like a shanty-town wasteland and has so much crime we are near the top of the list nationally and have a "murder map."
Just recently a boy was murdered by his fellow "youths" for a $7 debt.
You will know what is going on when you see how bleak the place looks. Everything is dirty and covered in soot, most businesses are closed or are minimart ethnic groceries and etc. The most dangerous area is down by the river, especially at the train station.
Princeton is about a 20 minute drive away (depending on traffic).
