Ben Millam, a man who describes himself as an "aspiring geek" built an amazing feline feeding machine that requires his cat Monkey to hunt for RFID-tagged white plastic balls.

I may need one of those for my cats.
My cat would be like "yeah......fuck that" and just cry at his food dish until I gave him food.
I'm sure there was some behavioral modification involved. ;)
Yep. Mine would just hop on my desk, sit on my keyboard and give me the evil eye until I fed him.
He has you well-trained.
the guy clicker trained the cat to use it.
My cat died the other week (yeah I am fun at parties) but i guess he would have been to lazy anyway.
No one is lazy when they are hungry!
Yeah true. :)
Time to get an(other) arduino, let's do this!
That is the coolest thing I've seen a cat do in a while!
hehe yeah it's impressive how far a cat can go to get the food. :) They are pretty intelligent but just too lazy the other times (when they don't get food :) ).
Those lazy slobs are just used to having their staff refill their bowl every few hours. I am a huge fan of making them work for their food by entertaining us humans :D
Well, i hate the in house pet cats (I still cannot wrap my head around the thought that this is actually a thing). My cat can (could) come and go at anytime he wanted.

I'm going to go ahead and say that if you build a machine that uses RFID tags to feed your cat, then you've passed the "aspiring" geek stage. Ben Millam should be receiving his full-fledged geek membership packet in the next few days!
I wish I could build something like that. Our kitty needs to lose a little weight and the vet suggested to make her hunt but puppy would get it if we just left piles places. Very cool machine though.
Leave food in mildly high places out of puppies reach.
