Using lasers to build molecules instead of tearing them apart
Bouncing atoms off each other is not enough - got to get them in the mood as well.

Neat article! I'm always amazed at the number of applications of lasers. You would have thought that we would have figured most of them out by now, but I really like seeing all of the surprises.
If you are interested in learning more, you should check out applications of lasers to help understand molecular structure and shape. Rapid irradiation by lasers provides just enough excitation to unfold the protein enough to put together multiple frames in order to assess how folding occurs through reversal of the process.
A question for those who are more knowledgeable than I am - does this mean we are taking a step closer to cold fusion?
We've had that for several decades already.
The existence of low energy nuclear reactions is still an open question in the scientific community. Here is the best source of info I have found on the web.
