The pen is mightier than the laptop - learn how to use it!
Laptops have become lighter, thinner, and ubiquitous. With widely available tools such as Evernote, OneNote, Google Docs, etc. — note-taking has gone digital, and many people don’t see the value in old-fashioned analog. However, the value of note-taking lives in an intangible world. Longhand notes force selectivity, because writing does objectively take longer than typing. The extra processing of the material is extremely beneficial and forces content that really resonates. Being able to ...

How Western civilisation could collapse
The political economist Benjamin Friedman once compared modern Western society to a stable bicycle whose wheels are kept spinning by economic growth. Should that forward-propelling motion slow or cease, the pillars that define our society – democracy, individual liberties, social tolerance and more – would begin to teeter. Our world would become an increasingly ugly place, one defined by a scramble over limited resources and a rejection of anyone outside of our immediate group. Should we fin...

Vacant Homes Are A Global Epidemic, And Paris Is Fighting It With A 60% Tax
Runaway real estate speculation has been filling global capitals with vacant homes, creating artificial shortages in the world’s most sought after cities. The “shortage” has made local home owners wealthy overnight, but it comes at the cost of turning lively cities into empty shells. The city of Paris has decided it’s had enough, and implemented a tax in 2015. They didn’t quite get the results they wanted, so they’re now tripling the tax to 60%.

Continuously following the first link of any Wikipedia article will ultimately lead to "Philosophy"
There was an idea floating around that continuously following the first link of any Wikipedia article will eventually lead to “Philosophy.” This sounded like a reasonable assertion, one that makes a certain amount of sense in retrospect: any description of something will typically use more general terms. And here is a tool that confirms this claim - https://xefer.com/wikipedia

The World’s Most Inspirational Iceberg Isn’t What It Seems
The expression, and the photo, have become a mainstay of inspirational posters, expressing concepts like success, imagination, and the human condition. The image is composed of four separate pictures - the underwater shot and shot of the clouds was taken in Santa Barbara, the picture of the top part of the iceberg is from Antarctica while the picture of the bottom part is actually an iceberg in Alaska.

Microsoft Will Not Support Upcoming Processors Except On Windows 10
Microsoft has long been the bastion of long term support for older platforms, so today’s support news out of Redmond is particularly surprising. Intel launched its 6th generation Skylake cores back in August, and support on Windows 7 has been not as strong as Windows 10 right out of the gate. It’s not terribly strange that new features like Intel’s Speed Shift will not be coming to Windows 7, but today Microsoft announced that going forward, new processors will only be supported on Windows...
