New technology from food tracking apps to Fitbits are obsessed with calculating the metrics of life. Death calculators, on the other hand, crunch the numbers on your probability of expiring. Now, researchers from a Swedish institute have created an online tool that calculates a person's risk of dying in the next five years, based largely on lifestyle habits that can have major effects -- good and bad -- on longevity. Their work appears this week in the medical journal The Lancet.

Yesterday, a new report confirmed that the FBI is flying unmarked surveillance planes over major US cities, using the cover of fake companies with names like “OBD Leasing” and “FVX Research”. Now it seems someone—though probably not the FBI—is posing as one of those companies, attempting to deny affiliation with the Feds via a hilariously bogus website, complete with stock photos.

My website is 20 years old today. I’m dictating these remarks into a tiny handheld device, not to prove a point, but because, with gorgeously ironic timing, my wired internet connection has gone out. It’s the kind of wired connection, offering the kind of speed, ‘most everyone reading this takes for granted today—a far cry from the 14.4 modem with which I built and tested the first version of this site, shipping it (if you could call it that) on May 31, 1995.

AdultFriendFinder users are finding themselves exposed in ways they never dreamed of when they signed up for the online hooking up service. According to reports, a hacker by the name of ROR[RG] hacked the site and stole all kinds of information about the site’s users. Everything from email and home addresses, to sexual preferences and whether the user was looking for relationships outside of their marriages have been lifted. This includes people who thought they deleted their accounts.
