Arto Tunçboyacıyan - Broken Arm
This is a track from Armenian folk-influenced artist Arto Tunçboyacıyan. It's haunting and beautiful - I recommend giving it a shot even if you don't normally like non-English speaking music. Sometimes he sings in a made up quasi-language to emphasize the importance of the sound it makes. I used to listen to this album every night before I slept. Occasionally, I'd wake up to one of the later tracks in a dazed dreamlike state. It was awesome.

The pAper chAse - What Should We Do With Your Body (The Lightning)
The Paper Chase has to be one of my favourite bands ever. The main writer and lead singer is John Congleton, a respected music producer who has worked with lots of well known acts. What I love most about them is the discordant and sometimes difficult to listen to arrangements, which often climax and give way to beautiful conclusions (that are so much more affecting in context). Perhaps one for the musicians among us.

Aimee Curl and Sxip Shirey - Brooklyn Bridge Song
A short song with the great Sxip Shirey. As well as some crazy compositions with home made instruments, Sxip sometimes puts out the odd song of sublime and gentle beauty. This is one of them.

Homeless - Rest In Peace
I first came into contact with Homeless a number of years ago when he went by homelessryank and posted slam poetry to YouTube. This was the first song I heard of his since he started recording fully-fledged hip hop. Really well written verses with chilled out beats.

Common Rider - Where the Waves Are Highest
Common Rider is a band featuring Jesse Michaels, the lead singer of seminal bay area ska punk legends Operation Ivy. They released a couple of great albums before breaking up. This short song was on a split EP they released alongside Against All Authority.

Norma Tanega - You're Dead
Norma Tanega is a little-known folk artist from the sixties. This song was featured on the soundtrack of the movie What We Do in the Shadows (which I highly recommend). I've been addicted to it ever since.

Released in 2007. I discovered this song and the bizarre but fun video earlier this year. Hope you enjoy it and get a kick out of the video.

Karl Buhre - Stealing Horses
Fantastic little song I heard in a game trailer a few years back. Artist hasn't done much else from what I can find, but there's also a nice live version.

Okkervil River - For Real (2005)
Okkervil River have released seven albums since 2002 and are one of those bands that haven't broken big, but have a strong and loyal fan base. This song always stood out for me. I love this song.

Sage Francis - Make Em Purr
This is a fantastic song from Sage's 2014 album, Copper Gone. I think the video is beautifully animated. The song was a last minute addition to the album, and the very personal lyrics were written and recorded in one night.

Postmodern Jukebox feat. Puddles - Chandelier
Chances are, if you're familiar with social media, you've seen at least one of Postmodern Jukebox's stylized pop covers. This one features Puddles, the "Sad Clown with the Golden Voice" of Puddles' Pity Party.

Matt the Electrician - For Angela
Matt the Electrician has an ever-growing body of work and makes heartfelt, interesting and occasionally funny music. He plays most of his shows in his home state of Texas. This song is a letter to Walmart in musical form.

Dessa - Fighting Fish
As well as a solo artist, Dessa is also a member of hip hop collective, Doomtree. Her lyrics are thought-provoking and her delivery is precise.
