Meet the Mods

I think it would be nice to meet those who would be hanging around here! So Skry and Cmagnificent please feel free to comment with a little about yourselves!

Hi my name is Zomb, you can shorten that to Zom or Zi if you'd like! I'm a 25 year old 'blue collar' girl. I work at a local school as a custodian and I am an artist in my free time. I adore animals and have way too many. I breed rats, mice and hamsters for a pet store business to sell and i take pride in my care and love for my animals.
I have always struggled with depression and suicide. After hitting puberty I have struggled and mostly lost a battle with weight and it often tweaks my mood horribly! But thanks to a great community and family/friends I have begun to take steps to changing the one aspect that has taken so much of my focus during my life.
I am a good listener and I do hope I can help all those here that need it. I can only hope you all don't need this service but sadly suicide and depression are real problems in our lives and we will do what we can to help!

    Hi Everyone!

First a huge thank you to Zomb for setting this tribe up so people have a place to come when they're facing these problems.

I'm a 25 year old dirty writer type who works in addiction treatment. I have over a decade of experience in the mental health circuit both on the client side and practitioner side and genuinely believe that communities like this are our first, last and best line of defense against suicide and self destruction.

My only objectives here are to lend a sympathetic and empathetic ear to all those who need it and to make sure this place remains a strong and vibrant support network for anyone who is battling with depression and suicidal ideation or is close to someone experiencing these issues.

As always if there is a true emergency the national suicide hotline for the United States is at - 1 (800) 273-8255 and it would be greatly appreciated if people from other locales could give us their local lines as a resource for those who need it.

I'm happy to have the chance to give to others what has been so freely given to me in the past. My ears and my heart are open.

Wondering if I can help also. I work on a suicide crisis team and have worked in mental health for the last 14 years. I am professionally qualified and currently running a treatment program for those with repeated self harm and suicidal behaviours. Happy to lend some technical skill and compassion to this wonderful tribe.

The best thing you can do to help is to keep an eye out hear and reach out when someone is hurting. That's the biggest contribution possible. There's also /t/psychology and /t/suicide for general discussion of psychology both clinical and research and suicide specifically where I'm sure you could share a lot of that technical expertise to an interested audience.

Honestly, being a mod doesn't put you in a special position to help, it just means that I have the responsibility of making sure to keep out the judgement and recrimination.

Hi! My name is Skry, I'm not entirely sure that can be shortened any more than that and still make sense. I'm 23? I think, almost definitely it all kind of blurs together. I'm a jailer for my counties sheriff's office, I love dogs cause they're the most amazing things ever, and getting lost in books. I joined the military straight out of high school got through boot camp and my job training and was stationed in Okinawa, where I slid into depression and was released from my contract early due to my suicidal thoughts, and one attempt. Seriously, number 3 right there on the side if you're not comfortable posting you can PM me anytime and I'll respond as soon as I can. There's no need to feel ashamed about needing help.

I would like to offer my assistance as well, I am a military ASIST, and former responder for Battles in Distress, a military suicide prevention site.

All you have to do is keep your eyes open here and if you could find the time, keep checking suicidewatch on reddit as it's still a larger community that more people are familiar with. As Zomb said so clearly, we genuinely hope that no one needs this service, but with the world we live in these kinds of resources are essential. Its reality and it's great to know there are so many good people here ready and willing to help where they can.
