Valve is creating a Steam Deck API for devs to quickly optimise games

Valve says Steam Machines were 'a good idea' that helped make Steam Deck possible
Valve has not had great luck making hardware. The Steam Controller failed to revolutionize the controller scene despite its innovative design, the Steam Link worked well but was muscled out by a less-impressive app, and the ballyhooed Steam Machines basically faceplanted right out of the gate. The Index is an impressive unit, but hasn't sparked a meaningful uptick in VR adoption since its release.

A Medieval Micromanagement Sim Is Tearing Up The Steam Charts
I didn’t expect to play five hours of Going Medieval in one sitting right after installing it. I spotted the game on Steam’s top-selling charts, it looked neat, and I gave it a try. Suddenly, after what only felt like a few minutes, I looked up at the clock and realized I had spent hours building, managing, and tinkering with my medieval settlement. And I can’t wait to get back to it.

Scavengers 'exhausted' its supply of Steam keys on first day of Early Access
Scavengers, the hybrid battle royale from Midwinter Entertainment, arrived in Early Access on Wednesday. Well, sort of. Claiming a key to the free-to-play team-based shooter required players to watch 30 minutes of the game streaming on Twitch, then claim a key in a Twitch drop. Steam Seemingly Working on a Loyalty System That Could Get You Game Discounts
One of the developers behind SteamDB has revealed that Valve is seemingly working on a loyalty system that could potentially reward users with game discounts and virtual items. Pavel Djundik posted the news to Twitter, noting that the "loyalty awards" system would feature accruable points that can be redeemed for badge levels, and will allow reactions to user reviews. According to Djundik, there will also be "reward items" and perhaps a system where players can receive discounts on games as a reward for their loyalty to Steam.

Valve explains why we still don't have Half-Life 3
Half-Life: Alyx is out today, it's a great VR game and a great Half-Life game, and perhaps best of all we don't have to stop joking about "Half-Life 3 confirmed!" because neither that nor the semi-sequel-ish Half-Life 2: Episode Three are still nowhere in sight. In an interview with IGN, level designer Dario Casali explained why, after 13 years, a proper Half-Life sequel still hasn't happened.
