The suspect, 47-year-old Mildred Newsome, was arrested Saturday after nearly a month-long investigation of the accusations, officials said. She is charged with sexual battery and second degree sexual offense, records show.

Sweden adopts law saying sex without consent is rape
Sweden has adopted a law requiring people to get explicit consent before sexual contact, otherwise it will be considered as rape. Swedish politicians approved the change by 257 votes to 38, with 54 absentees. The law, which goes into effect on July 1, says "it is no longer necessary for the offender to use violence or threats, or to exploit the victim's particularly vulnerable situation" for rape charges to be brought forward.

Despite years of initiatives aimed at combating rape and sexual assault within U.S. military ranks, the Pentagon released data Monday that showed a 10% increase in reported incidents over the last fiscal year. The Pentagon’s annual report stated the number of alleged assaults spiked across all four military branches. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has resigned following allegations of assault by four women.The New Yorker magazine published a report quoting the women, two of them ex-girlfriends, who accused Mr Schneiderman, 63, of hitting them. Mr Schneiderman has been a vocal supporter of the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment and a fierce opponent of President Donald Trump. In a statement, Mr Schneiderman said he "strongly contests" the allegations.

Clemson student charged with falsely reporting rape says she is victim of sex assault
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Clemson University student who investigators say was untruthful when she said she was sexually assaulted at an off-campus fraternity house in January.
