A rare weather phenomenon at the Grand Canyon had visitors looking out on a sea of thick clouds just below the rim.

On an early summer morning, Teruo Araya captured this image of a train on Japan Rail's Tadami line as it passed through Fukushima Prefecture. "The haze generated by the river created a fantasy world," as the train crossed the railway bridge, Araya says. For the Your Shot contributor, the sight expressed the recovery of the people of Fukushima, defying the earthquake and nuclear accident of March 2011. "But it is like an endless journey."

The Bunda cliffs extend for around 100 km along the Great Australian Bight near its northern extremity and are close to the Nullarbor Plain in a very sparsely settled area of Australia. Geologically the cliffs are of Tertiary age and are composed of fossiliferous limestone.

With 16,454 inhabitants as of 2013, Nuuk is the capital (fastest growing town) in Greenland. It is very scenic, especially in the summer as shown in the pic.

On November 29, 2013, Grand Canyon experienced a rare temperature inversion, where cool air rising from the bottom of the canyon meets warm air from above, creating a layer of fog in the canyon. This happens about once or twice a year, but this particular inversion was a 10 year event, with clear skies above and the canyon full nearly to the brim with fog.

After a 20 minute climb up a boggy hillside in gumboots at Salisbury Plain, South Georgia Islands, I turned around to see a field of King penguins, stretching into the distance, sunlit by a break in the clouds.
